  • AES’ Expansive Applied Solution Combines Multiple SEMI-GAS® and VERSA-GAS™ Systems for Bulk SiCl4 Delivery

    MALVERN, PA, April 28, 2017 – Applied Energy Systems (AES), provider of high and ultra high purity gas systems, services, and solutions – including design, manufacturing, testing, installation, and expert field service –  has unveiled the latest Applied Solution it developed for a leading global telecommunications cables producer to support the company’s fiber optics cable manufacturing. The Ultra High Purity (UHP) Silicon Tetrachloride (SiCl4) Delivery System is an expansive solution that combines multiple SEMI-GAS® subsystems and controllers, installed across different rooms, with customized VERSA-GAS™ liquid delivery boxes mounted on a high bay steel bridge to push liquid SiCl4 from source tube trailers to the various subsystems.

    AES’ custom solution was tailored specifically to the cabling provider’s high-tech manufacturing processes and operating environment. In addition to the source liquid push boxes, the system includes:

    • A secondary set of liquid push boxes installed in the facility’s gas room to supply the system’s day-tank and ultimately feed the manufacturer’s process system.

    • A SEMI-GAS® 500 liter SiCl4 316 L stainless steel day tank and Xturion™ LPX™ enclosure for filling and delivering liquid SiCl4.

    • Two wall mounted SEMI-GAS® GigaGuard™ PLC Controllers with color touchscreens: one for monitoring and emergency shutdown of the day tank system and associated liquid push boxes, and one for monitoring and emergency shutdown of the source liquid push boxes. The controllers have been integrated to communicate with each other for seamless monitoring management.

    • A system design and footprint which allows for future expansion and includes a SiCl4 isolation box for splitting and feeding two duplicate systems.

    The system was not only engineered by AES, but installed and tested in the cabling manufacturer’s facility by AES’ Applied Services field team. Services provided included equipment installation; ultra high purity process piping and coaxial line installation to interconnect all system components; on-site helium leak testing and system validation; and equipment commissioning and staff training to ensure optimal system operation.

  • Product Includes Added Features to Safely Achieve High, Sustainable Flow Rates

    MALVERN, PA, May 31, 2017 – Applied Energy Systems (AES), provider of high and ultra high purity gas systems, services, and solutions – including design, manufacturing, testing, installation, and expert field service – has introduced an updated design for its heater blanket for use with SEMI-GAS® and VERSA-GAS™ source systems supporting liquefied gas delivery. New features have been added to the standard blanket design to improve the product’s safety and performance in vaporizing liquefied gases to achieve high, sustainable flow rates. Attaining such flow rates is critical for various industries, particularly those involving high-volume semiconductor production applications, industrial manufacturing, and R&D.

    The updated UL labeled heater blanket is compatible with source products from both of AES’ gas delivery equipment brands, including VERSA-GAS™ vSource™ and vBulk™ gas cabinets, gas panels, and rack mount systems, and SEMI-GAS®’ lines of Centurion™ gas cabinets, Decaturion™ wall mount systems, Megaturion™ bulk gas systems, and Xturion™ custom solutions.

    The new sleek and modern design for a standard (9” diameter x 51” high) cylinder includes:

    • A silver, silicone coated fiberglass exterior and ¼” thick needled fiberglass insulation for a thicker, more robust and rigid construction and increased durability.

    • Wattage density of 1.16 watts per square inch up to 760 watts using 240 VAC.

    • A 24” heated zone at the base of the cylinder to maximize efficiency and optimize gas usage.

    • A cinch drawstring and insulation zone at the top of the heater blanket to minimize heat loss.

    • 8 straps and 8 quick disconnect buckles, with double straps at the heated zone, to ensure constant, secure contact with the gas cylinder.

    • Six manual, resettable thermostats to monitor heat distribution. If the maximum temperature is reached, the electric current will be interrupted to allow the blanket to cool down.

    • (2) K-type thermocouples for temperature monitoring and control.

  • The GSM-V™ Offers Updated Touchscreen Interface and Added Features in a Simple, Plug and Play Upgrade

    MALVERN, PA, June 29, 2017 – Applied Energy Systems (AES), provider of high and ultra-high purity gas systems, services, and solutions – including design, manufacturing, testing, installation, and expert field service – has introduced the GigaGuard™ GSM-V™ Controller to replace the GSM-5™ Gas Safety Monitor, a legacy technology from the company’s SEMI-GAS® line of ultra high purity gas delivery systems. The new controller has been modernized with a color touchscreen interface as well as an EtherCAT PLC-based control system, and is optimized for hassle-free, drop-in replacement by customers to easily upgrade AT-Plus Series gas source systems that currently use the GSM-5™. For legacy switchover systems, (2) GSM-V™ controllers replace (2) GSM-5 controllers, (1) AS200 controller, and (1) MPC controller.

    The GSM-V™, which conforms to SEMI S2 standards, is identical to its predecessor in form factor, shape, dimension (8” T x 10” W x 12” D), and mounting and connector locations, but now includes added features to improve ease of use and monitoring flexibility. Key upgrades to this programmable controller include:

    • A 7” Beckoff color touchscreen interface that offers step by step guides for purging, cylinder changeout, daily operations, data logging, and input and output configurations to minimize human error.

    • Control for (8) solenoid valves, with the option for expansion to control up to (14) solenoid valves.

    • Monitors digital and analog process sensor inputs and (8) configurable Form C relay outputs.

    • Ethernet-ready communications and capability to integrate with a facility’s safety monitoring system.
