WCM designs multichannel RF filters, transformers, inductors

West Coast Magnetics is a designer and manufacturer of wire and foil wound inductors, transformers, common mode chokes, and current sensing transformers for switch mode power supply (SMPS) and RF applications. WCM R&D efforts have resulted in patented technologies and innovative designs for power and RF magnetic components in many applications.  Multichannel RF band pass filters which WCM designs for plasma processing equipement uses a technology which combines an inductor and a capacitor into a single device. These RF filters are very compact, with up to 12 tunable channels in a single device.  WCM also offers box build electronic manufacturing services for small to medium size production runs.   Headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, WCM manufactures and designs custom engineered magnetic components, and provides manufacturing services for companies competing in the global OEM space. Our manufacturing facilities are in Stockton, California and Tecate, Mexico.

  • At West Coast Magnetics, we are improving RF filter design, making them more compact and simultaneously able to handle more power.

    Precision plasma processing often requires an RF filter to eliminate spurious noise in the system. In the past, this type of filter utilized multi-component designs which were large, subject to parasitic effects and with properties that varied with temperature. These legacy designs do not filter well at the desired frequencies when installed due to interactions with the rest of the assembly. WCM has developed a new patent pending technology which utilizes a single compact device to provide exceptionally high impedance at any chosen RF frequency.  This new technology can accommodate multiple channels in a single device, handle high current, and the impedance properties are highly stable with temperature.  It is continuously tunable to any RF frequency and has been implemented in filters at 13.56 MHz, 27.12 MHz, and 40.68 MHz, with intentions to expand the range into lower and higher frequencies. It is much more space efficient; one prototype fit 12 channels into the space in which only 4 fit previously.  These new RF filter designs would be an excellent choice for your high-power filtering needs.

  • WCM is advancing RF Filter Technology by creating designs that are more compact while simultaneously able to handle more power. The driving force behind this is the need for semiconductor processing equipment to have temperature stable, compact narrow band filters to remove noise at the frequency of their process. Legacy RF filter designs face limitations due to their large size and limited ability to filter well at the desired frequencies when installed, due to interactions with the rest of the assembly.

    Our recently developed technology, patent pending, utilizes a single compact device to provide exceptionally high impedance at any chosen RF frequency. The new RF filter design successfully:

    • accommodates multiple channels in a single device
    • handles high current
    • is continuously tunable to any RF frequency
