Sugino Features Star Burst Mini, a Wet-Jet Milling Device, at SEMICON West 2022!
Wixom, Michigan, June 2022 – SEMICON West 2022 attendees have a first-hand opportunity to learn more about Sugino’s Star Burst Mini, a device for processing raw materials. Star Burst is a wet-jet milling device that disperses, emulsifies, pulverizes, and reforms surfaces of raw materials by obliquely colliding the particles pressurized up to 245 MPa at the relative velocity of Mach 4.
Each Star Burst unit in the lineup employs highly pressurized water, without any grinding media, resulting in effective results with minimal contamination. Homogenized particle size can be achieved by controlling the injection speed of the raw material slurry. Nano-level pulverization and disbursement are effectively achieved within a short period of time.
Star Burst has been proven effective in processing many materials into nano-level particles, allowing scientists and researchers to manipulate the materials to maximize their benefit and usefulness. Nano-sized alumina (Al₂O₃) for example, increases electrical and thermal conductivity and improves the hardness and strength of ceramics. Cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeONPs) are a quality abrasive matter that can be processed quickly and cleanly with Star Burst, resulting in homogenized particles without contamination.
Other applications include:
- Electronics - Battery materials, ceramics, metals, magnetic materials, capacitors, CMP slurry
- Chemicals - Resins, plastics, polymers, waxes, fats, and oils
- Pigments - Toner, color filters for liquid crystals, printing inks, paint
