Widely used on semiconductor production equipment, Watlow® silicone rubber heaters are versatile enough for foodservice equipment, medical technology and more. While these flexible workhorses can be customized to meet the exact needs of an industry and application, silicone rubber heaters also require care during installation to prevent damage and avoid premature failure.

Silicone rubber heaters derive their adaptability from their thin profile, light weight and capacity to fit in small spaces. Yet they are also durable, stable and capable of outlasting many of the component parts that surround them in microchip processors and other machinery.

In addition, silicone rubber heaters boast a rapid warmup and efficient heat transfer. These heaters are also capable of operating at temperatures up to 500°F. They provide consistent temperature uniformity while decreasing wattage requirements.

Ease of installation is another advantage silicone rubber heaters have over other options. Thanks to their pliant nature, silicone rubber heaters are conducive to fitting in tiny notches or isolated nooks, though as will be discussed in this article their placement necessitates caution.

Silicone rubber heaters also happen to be less expensive than comparable alternatives.

According to the best available research, improvements in the user interface in a piece of technology can yield improved efficiency of up to 700%, factoring in ease of use, ease of training and reduction in errors committed. Modern controllers such as PM PLUS are designed with this in mind, and can provide a distinct competitive advantage when deployed into both new and existing processes.

The PM PLUS contains all the features and accessibility of the PM LEGACY plus the control options and configurations needed to run multiple functions within a single controller. As a panel mount controller, it is available in 1/16 DIN and has complete backward compatibility with any system that is currently using an EZ-ZONE PM controller.

Users can control more than temperature with the PM PLUS, including pressure and flow, lights, buzzers and more. Look for an updated and minimized menu with a “list of lists” structure, which was designed to simplify the process of figuring out which options are required for easy setup and launching of the system.

The PM PLUS is offered in two models: 

• Standard PID model 

• Integrated PID model

Both of these options come equipped with the upgraded enclosure that lacks tactile keys and buttons, has no jacks or dongles on the front and is easy to keep clean without the risk of damaging internal or external components.

The standard  PID model has three available variations (PID only, PID and ramping, PID and countdown timer) and allows for up to two outputs. An advantage to the integrated PID model is that it allows for up to four outputs. These outputs come with a vast output hardware library, and both models offer the option to isolate an input. 

Operators should determine their usage needs when deciding between the PM LEGACY and PM PLUS models. The PM PLUS is a perfect option for new developments looking for an easy-to-use powerhouse controller that can handle both simple and advanced functions.
