An automaker asked us to create an innovative drilling solution to drastically extend tool life. We were able to take carbide drilling from 25,000 holes to pcd drilling of 1,000,000 holes without change out in aluminum saving them from shutting their line down 40 times over 4 years. As a result, millions of dollars saved and cost per hole is free at the end of four years even though the tool has never reached tool life.
PCD loves heat and cutting non-ferrous materials. We have since expanded types of material and industries that is now using this innovative technology to solve their solid drilling application problems (increased production, less down time, lower cost per hole over the life of the tool). However, we also know that tool life will never be the same from one material to another. What tool life is in aluminum will never match tool life in ceramics for example (the more abrasive the material, the shorter the tool life).
We were contacted in 2022 by a semiconductor manufacturer. They had tried four other cutting tool vendors that was not successful at finding a solution to drill the first hole. We were the fifth vendor contacted, but the only company who could provide a solution that was successful.
