  • High precision Optical Glass
At OHARA, we meet all optical design needs with a line-up of over 140 types of optical glasses with the characteristics that enable optical devices to attain higher performances, miniaturization and cost reduction....

  • Optical glass is used in various optical devices such as digital single lens reflex cameras, projectors, television cameras, automotive cameras, security cameras and medical devices. The cutting-edge glass materials of the highest quality that OHARA provides support people around the world in their smiles and sense of wonder.

131 different types of optical glass for use in polished lenses and optical elements. For the purpose of global environmental conservation, OHARA uses no lead or arsenic in these 131 glasses. To distinguish these glasses from others containing lead or arsenic, the names for these 131 environmentally safe glass types begin with S-.  17 types of optical are lined for use in molded lenses. The glass type designation for these types begins with L-. They are also environmentally friendly, as they do not contain lead or arsenic.

    Product Types

  • This material was developed by OHARA based on our knowledge of High Homogeneity melting and Precise Crystallization. This material is produced under tightly controlled conditions and offers outstanding thermal, mechanical and chemical properties. There are 3 version of CLEARCERAM™-Z available based on thermal expansion differences; Regular, CCZ HS and CCZ EX.

    Ultra-Low Expansion

The material shows almost Zero Thermal Expansion over a wide temperature range and offers superior thermal shock resistance. CLEARCERAM™-Z Regular offers lower thermal expansion across a wide temperature range, while the CLEARCERAM™-HS offers lower thermal expansion near room temperature. CLEARCERAM™-Z EX features extremely low temperature dependence of thermal expansion in 0 to 50degree C, which is less than half of the present high spec grade (CLEARCERAM™-Z HS)

    Superior Mechanical Properties

The material has very high chemical durability and is very stable in various cleaning and thin-film coating processes. CLEARCERAM™-Z does not contain Na, K, B, F, or Pb in its composition which is a main reason for the excellent chemical resistance the material displays.

    Superior Machinability

The crystal grain structure of the material prevents the propagation of micro crack caused in machining process. This property allows the material to be processed into various shapes with high accuracy, with ease of machinabilty and elevated yield rates.

  • NANOCERAM™
New proposals will be possible that cannot be realized with sapphire crystal glass and chemically strengthened glass, such as cover glass for optical devices and mobile devices, which requires shock resistance....

  • NANOCERAMTM is glass-ceramic for which we have further evolved OHARA’s nanocrystallization technology, thus far recognized in all fields, and achieved superior mechanical properties and high transmittance.
New proposals will be possible that cannot be realized with sapphire crystal glass and chemically strengthened glass, such as cover glass for optical devices and mobile devices, which requires shock resistance.

    Impact Resistance High Hardness

Compared with general borosilicate glass, NANOCERAM™ has 30% higher hardness and showed more than 10 times higher impact resistance in steel ball drop impact test. In addition, it has a 20% higher hardness than chemically strengthened glass, and showed more than 3 times higher impact resistance in steel ball drop impact test. Also, it has better fracture toughness than sapphire crystal glass, and cracks that cause breakage do not occur even if there are scratches and realizing a characteristic that is resistant to cracking.

    Good Processability

Although it has the properties of hard ceramics, the cutting, polishing and moldability realized workability comparable to that of glass. Moreover, it has grinding and polishing property which can shorten process time to about 1 / 20th of sapphire crystal glass.

    High Transmittance

Since, crystal grains of glass ceramics are large, so it is difficult to transmit light and never used for optical applications. However, high transparency has been realized by Ohara's nanocrystallization technology (particle diameter about 6 nm) which has a high track record in the space and astronomy fields. NANOCERAM™ is mounted on a high-end lens protector for single-lens reflex interchangeable lenses of domestic manufacturers who are demanding strict optical performance and precise quality, and NANOCERAM™ has received high marks.

  • Glass-ceramics with top class ion conductivity from its oxide-based solid electrolyte materials, and high levels of chemical stability and water resistance. This product is expected to be applied in solid-state batteries, which are attracting attention as next-generation batteries, and as a cathode additive.

OHARA has developed and evaluated a Lithium Ion Conducting Glass Ceramic (LICGC ) powder, PW-01, that functions as a cathode additive in lithium ion batteries and enhances battery performance. This unique glass ceramic powder inhibits the growth of resistive layers in the electrode, increases the charge and discharge cycles by 4X, and greatly improves stored energy retention at high temperature.

  • Ohara successfully developed synthetic fused silica SK-1300 as a result of significant improvements made to the conventional VAD (vapor-phase axial deposition) method of optical fiber manufacturing technology.

SK-1300 is extremely high in purity and much lower in OH content than the traditional direct method, thus making it the first synthetic fused silica usable in the semiconductor and liquid crystal display industries.

SK-1300 is the state-of-the-art technology in optical characteristics because it provides a high ultraviolet transmission, no micro inclusion and a solarization resistance, in addition to heat resistance, mechanical strength, and chemical resistance.

These products can be used in a wide variety of industrial applications for semiconductors, optical and all physical or chemical related research featuring these applications:

    • Wafers for various types of devices such as TFT(poly-Si thin-film transistor LCD.), SOI (Silicon on Insulator) etc.
    • Photomask substrates for ultra-LSI and LCD.
    • Reactor furnace tubes, jigs and tools for ULSI manufacturing processes.
    • Electrical-discharge lamp tubes.
    • Optical elements, Ienses, mirrors and windows, for ultraviolet and vacuum ultraviolet
