The optical parts of optical devices are composed of combinations of optical components, including spherical lenses, aspherical glass mold lenses, prisms and filters, which are made with multiple types of optical glass with characteristics in its refractive index and/or its transmittance. In order to attain optical designs for various optical devices, OHARA deals with over 150 types of optical glasses and meets the needs of a wide variety of optical designs for optical devices to enable
higher performances, miniaturization, weight reduction and cost reduction. In addition, depending on requests from our customers, we supply lens blanks in a suitable shape to be processed, finished lenses and so on. OHARA provides customers with optical glass products in a wide variety of types, from glass materials to optical components.
135 different types of optical glass for use in polished lenses and optical elements. For the purpose of global environmental conservation, OHARA uses no lead or arsenic in these 135 glasses.
Ohara also offers 18 types of Optical Glass for Molded Aspherical Lenses(Low Tg Optical Glass) for use in molded lenses. The glass type designation for these types begins with L-. They are also environmentally friendly, as they do not contain lead or arsenic.
Non-browning Glass
A special optical glass that reduces coloring in a radiation environment. It is used for optical components in radiation environments such as outer space.
A standard optical glass be colored under radiation environment and light cannot pass it through. When the camera lens colored, the correct image cannot be obtained and the function as a camera will be lost.
Reduce coloring by irradiation: Even if it is placed in a strong radiation environment where general optical glass is colored, its transmittance almost no changes before and after irradiation due to its special composition.
Larger diameter : Some Non-browning Glass are possible to yield 150mm diameter or larger by manufacturing technology that Ohara has cultivated for many years. Please consult us for details.
Available in small lot orders : We can handle orders for several pieces per lot as we have been doing to general optical glass. Since it can be processed in the same way as general optical glass, it can be hot pressed, ground and polished.
Product Types
Reheat Pressings: Products molded in heat press to shapes suitable for spherical polished lenses and prisms
Spherical Lenses : Fini shed lenses produced by polishing, centering and coating
Polished Preforms : Spherically polished product in a suitable shape to be processed into aspherical glass mold lenses
Aspherical Glass Mold Lenses : Products fabricated by heating and softening polished preforms and transferring it in an ultra-high accuracy aspheric mold and then supplied after centering and coating
>Development of a 55 mm-Diameter Large-Aperture Aspherical Glass Mold Lens
A “large-aperture concave meniscus lens*” is one product that meets the diverse needs of our customers, used mainly as a camera or projector lens for its ability to capture and significantly refract large amounts of light. Manufacturing a “large-aperture concave meniscus lens” using the glass molding technique is technically challenging, but we have continued to work on developing this technology and have finally succeeded in producing a large-aperture concave meniscus lens with a diameter of 55 mm and an inclination angle of 45 degrees. We will continue to work on technological developments to meet the diverse needs of our customers.
