    Presenting an array of advanced automation technologies from its industry-leading portfolio, Bosch Rexroth will share its Factory of the Future insights and expertise for semiconductor manufacturing in booth 539 during SEMICON West 2019, July 9-11, 2019 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA. The company will have booth exhibits demonstrating cutting-edge automation technologies for Now, Next and Beyond, including a maglev transport system.

    Bosch Rexroth will present multiple exhibits and interactive demonstrations from its technology portfolio to help improve semiconductor manufacturing yields. These include advanced motion control platforms and high-performance linear motion systems that are currently available, plus previews of new products slated for launch in the near future, along with an opportunity to experience future cutting-edge systems such as a maglev-based wafer transport system.

    Key product highlights and demonstrations in the Rexroth booth will include:

    • A new magnetic levitation transport concept designed to move wafers in a vacuum, both within tools and between tools. This new platform can rotate 360 degrees with six-axis control for rotation, pitch and yaw of the wafer transport, including the ability to move up to 20 millimeters in the Z direction.
    • A wafer spin and lift demonstration that shows how Rexroth integrates high-speed spindle performance and vertical lift into one complete mechatronic assembly
    • The IMS Compact, the latest addition to the Rexroth family of integrated measuring systems for linear motion, combines a highly rigid Rexroth ball rail and roller rail system with a non-contact length measuring system. The IMS Compact integrates the sensor read head into the rail system runner block to save space and provide a more compact configuration for tight profiles.
    • Rexroth’s state-of-the-art, user-friendly digital linear motion eTools which enable engineers to plan, design and order linear motion systems more effectively, including new configurators for runner blocks and precision steel shafts of linear bushings

  • Engineering tools and configurators guide the user purposefully through the digital selection process and sustainably reduce the time-to-market

    Thanks to Bosch Rexroth’s Linear Motion eTools, the process of selecting, dimensioning and ordering Linear Motion components and systems is now easy and convenient. With eConfigurators and engineering tools, users no longer have to flip through catalogs and manually look up part numbers now that it can be done online. Machine and system designers will also benefit from more efficient workflows as a result of these eTools.   • The IndraDrive Mi enables machine manufacturers to integrate all electric drive components directly into the machine. The result: Entirely cabinet free, modular machines with a minimized footprint.

    Rexroth is moving the complete drive technology from the cabinet to the machine with decentralized supply and mains modules.

    Plant space is valuable. Which is why end-users demand more compact machines in order to increase their production capacities within an existing space. Separate control cabinets take up a lot of space. For this reason, Bosch Rexroth has now developed the technology to make cabinet-free technology a reality. In addition to the company’s proven motor-integrated and near-motor IndraDrive Mi drives, the company has developed decentralized supply and mains modules. Now machine manufacturers can integrate all drive components directly into the machine without the need for a control cabinet. Rexroth designed the cabinet-free supply and mains modules like its motor-integrated and near-motor drive modules with IP65 classification to protect against dust and water stream protection for robust use directly in the machine.

    The mains module includes a mains filter, mains regulator and even the mains protection in one device. The energy recovering power supply, control electronics, brake resistor and brake transistors are located in the supply module. The machines and modules are connected to the power supply directly without deviation via the cabinet. This reduces machine assembly wiring by 90 percent.

    With the decentralized modules, machine manufacturers can also connect up to 30 IndraDrive Mi units in series in a cable harness up to 200 meters long. Significantly more drives can be switched in series, depending on power consumption, cable length and selected options. In adjacent near-motor drives, a newly developed hybrid plug further reduces assembly work. These protected connector pieces, used for communication and power supply, are simply plugged into an adjacent IndraDrive Mi unit by assembly technicians

    Connect to any Control

    The IndraDrive Mi offers the following multi -Ethernet protocols: Sercos, PROFINET IO, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, and POWERLINK allowing the user to connect to essentially any control.

    Increased Modularity

    The cabinet-free drive technology extends the possibilities of modularized machine concepts. Machine manufacturers can pre-assemble modules and then connect them to one another at the cabinet without any further work. In addition, Rexroth increases the modularity with standardized interfaces for communication: the IndraDrive Mi supports all of the common Ethernet-based protocols, such as ProfiNet, EtherNet/IP and EtherCAT, and Sercos the automation bus all on one piece of hardware The hardware remains identical and selection occurs purely via software.

    To achieve consistent modularization, machine manufacturers are increasingly reallocating control functions to the individual machine modules. With the drive-integrated control unit from Rexroth, drive functions, motion control and motion logic merge into an open automation platform. This IEC 61131-3 standards-based motion logic system controls complex motion tasks. The drive-based control by Rexroth coordinates up to nine IndraDrive Mi units as slaves in real time.

    The IndraDrive Mi Cabinet-free power supply is a regenerative power supply, returning excess energy to the power grid therefore reducing energy consumption. In Smart Energy Mode it prevents peak loads and greatly reduces average energy consumption. The result of this is better grid compatibility, and the same machine performance with smaller components to reduce cost.

  • We offer many different drive options in our range of standard catalog systems including ball screw and belt as well as directly driven options such as linear and kit motors. From simple actuation to the most demanding motion challenges, we have a Linear Motion System solution for you. We offer additional options to accommodate many of the challenges present in semiconductor processing from custom plating to clean room considerations. Our custom systems group has the ability to design and integrate our core Rexroth products into a motion system built for your specific application needs.

    For example, our torque motors are water-cooled kit motors that have been optimized for high torques of up to 13,800 Nm. They consist of a stator with three-phase winding and a rotor with permanent magnets. Typical areas of operation for these motors are direct drives, such as in rotary tables, swivel axes of machining centers or print works. But they also open up new solutions for innovative mechanical engineering when used in robots, lathes, and plastic, woodworking, and special machines. The "cooling jacket" option for MST stators comprises a cooling jacket with closed cooling circuit, a mounting flange, and an electric connection via terminal box or plug. The back side of the cooling jacket is open, the rotor is connected to the machine's shaft and bearing. This provides the user with the optimum blend of standard solution and high freedom of design when integrating direct drive technology as well as clear cost benefits through reduced design expense and a service-friendly mounting concept.

  • The award-winning FTS provides a contactless and particle-free solution for the positioning of materials and work pieces inside or between machines. It works both in and out of vacuum and cables do not tether the carriage. It offers maximum accuracy and speed along with a high degree of flexibility and individual carriage control. As a modular system based on components, the FTS can be easily integrated into systems and machines. This offers the user full flexibility, both in the size and scale in selection of motors and drives, as well as, the programming of individual and synchronized motion. With its contactless drive, the intelligent system can adapt to a number of different production conditions. Additionally, by using a moving magnet design we give you the design freedom to move away from moving cables too. 

    Through its magnetic principle of operation, the FTS is one way we can meet extreme requirements in a high vacuum, since all the electronics are located outside the vacuum. The FTS can also operate with high precision in dusty and dirty environments. This makes it attractive for many applications, ranging from semiconductor and display manufacturing to battery production, where the FTS demonstrates its special handling characteristics and easily copes with a wide range of moving loads from a few grams up to 1,000 kg per carrier. Combined with highly repeatable accuracy and speeds up to 5 m/s with a velocity ripple of maximum 2% at 20 mm/s, the FTS is optimally equipped for a variety of industries.

    Another unique feature of the FTS is its motion control functionality and suitability for low-speed use, such as coating processes.
