At maxon, we develop and build high precision electric drive systems that are among the best in the world. We combine brushed and brushless DC motors, gearheads, sensors, and controllers into complete mechatronic drive systems.

We are driven by progress. We are certain that we can continuously improve – even what seems to be perfect – even better. We believe that outstanding engineers and technicians can make a positive impact on the world. This is why we support them in their efforts to go off the beaten path and provide the right drives for their ideas. We do this because we share in their uncompromising drive to excel in technology.

For more than 50 years, we have focused on customer-specific solutions, quality, and innovation. As a result, our modular product range has constantly been expanded and now includes:

  • Brushless and brushed DC motors
  • Brushless flat motors
  • Planetary gearheads, spur gearheads, special gearheads
  • Sensors
  • Servo amplifiers, positioning controllers
  • High-tech CIM and MIM components
  • Custom drives

 Press Releases

  • Using new processes, maxon has developed a rotor for flat motors whose housing is produced by cold forming. The result is the more powerful and less expensive EC 45 flat Power up motor, it is available in two standard versions, as well as in two new versions with either an open rotor or a fan.

  • maxon's EC-i 52 Power up brushless motor meets customer demands for industrial applications with higher torque. The new version of the EC-i 52 now achieves a torque of up to 1 Nm. This increase in performance is due to improved cooling, the ventilated version of the EC-i 52 Power up reaches 420 watts of nominal power.

Another addition to the EC-i family includes the, EC-i 40 High Torque 130 watt brushless motor. This drive was originally developed for power tool applications. To meet the high demand for higher-torque drives, maxon is mass producing the EC-i motor with an additional 34.8 mm in length. The versions with a fan offer up to 100 percent more power.

If required, the EC-i drives may be combined with encoders, gearheads, and a maxon controller in our easy to use online shop: shop.maxongroup.us

  • The new issue of DRIVEN, the maxon magazine, awaits the reader with fascinating articles about agricultural robotics, drone technology, and cleanrooms.

maxon is also releasing the new 2021/2022 product catalog, with over 560 pages of drive systems and new product information such as the EPOS4 Disk positioning controller.

DRIVEN magazine for drive technology enthusiasts

We are witnessing the start of a robotic evolution that is sweeping through all aspects of agriculture. This includes drones that monitor fields, spray specific plants, or send information to other robots on the ground that pull-out weeds and harvest fruit. The current edition of driven, the maxon magazine, is dedicated to agriculture and it provides the answers to the questions of where we are and where we are going in automated agriculture.

DRIVEN also looks at an inspiring application for children with walking disabilities, developed by a Canadian company. Additionally, maxon employees tell us about the challenges they faced when the demand for motors in medical devices skyrocketed during the COVID-19 pandemic. DRIVEN brings you interviews, application stories and news from the world of drive technology and is published in three languages. The current edition is now available online and printed copies may be requested, free of charge at magazine.maxongroup.com.

New 2021/22 Catalog featuring new products and more

maxon offers a large range of components: from brushed and brushless DC motors to gearheads, encoders, positioning controllers, master controllers, and battery management systems. The 2021/2022 catalog is hot off the press with over 560 pages to explore including maxon’s modular system, data sheets, technical tips and the maxon selection guide. The new catalog is available in a digital version and in print. All information is also available online at shop.maxongroup.com.

Featured in the latest catalog is the EPOS4 Disk positioning controller, which has a round design with a centered hole. This makes it suitable for robotic applications (e.g., integration into joints). The controller is available in 60- and 90-millimeter sizes, in both CANopen and EtherCAT versions.

  • maxon’s MiniMACS6-AMP-4/50/10 is the next generation of motion controllers. The controller is ideal for use in applications where PLC solutions may be too expensive or cannot meet customer-specific requirements.

maxon’s multi-axis controller, the MiniMACS6-AMP-4/50/10, offers precise and highly dynamic control of up to six brushed DC motors or four brushless DC motors (up to 540 W continuous output power and 1.6 kW peak output power). The controller is an economical and compact solution for system designers who develop autonomous robots or shuttle systems.

A significant advantage of the new multi-axis solution is that it is programmable with the comprehensive ApossIDE automation software and the license-free Motion Control Library (written in C). Integrated bus interfaces enable efficient data exchange with higher-level controllers; however, it is also possible to run complete process sequences autonomously, without a PLC or PC.

  • maxon's EPOS4 Micro 24/5 CAN - a mini controller

  • maxon's miniaturized controller with a size of only 32 mm x 22 mm is one of the latest additions to its successful line of positioning controllers. The attractive price-performance ratio, with a functionality that’s virtually identical to the larger units, addresses cost-sensitive single- and multi-axis applications.

The functionality, operation, software, and accessories of the new controller are derived almost directly from the existing products in the EPOS4 range. The device is suitable for use with both brushed DC and brushless EC motors (BLDC) of up to 120 W and has comprehensive feedback options such as Hall sensors, as well as digital incremental and SSI absolute encoders. State-of-the art concepts such as Dual Loop, Field Oriented Control (FOC), feed forward, and observer control allow optimal control in a wide variety of applications.

The existing digital and analog inputs and outputs are freely configurable and ideally matched to the numerous functions and operating modes of the CiA-402 positioning controller. The intuitive EPOS Studio start-up software, as well as libraries and programming examples for integration in a wide variety of master systems, are available free of charge and make operation as easy as possible. A plug-and-play EvaluationBoard (EB) is provided for initial commissioning. The offer is rounded out by a comprehensive scope of accessories and detailed product documentation.

The first derivative of this new micro design is the CANopen version, which can also be addressed via RS232 or USB, as usual. In spring 2020, the EPOS4 Micro 24/5 EtherCAT will follow as a second product of similarly small size.

Visit epos.maxongroup.us for the latest updates about EPOS and individual devices, EPOS Studio, as well as all downloads and technical documentation.

  • maxon's brushless ECX TORQUE motors, have a diameter of 22 mm and are available in three different lengths. With their iron core and multi-pole rotor design, these motors achieve a very high torque density at moderate speeds, while their low time constant makes them extremely dynamic. The ECX TORQUE motors are available as configurable units ready for shipment in 11 working days.
