 Press Releases

  • Extrel, the world’s leading manufacturer of research and process mass spectrometers, has expanded its high-performance product portfolio with the launch of its new VeraSpecTM APIMS for ultra-high purity (UHP) gas contamination analysis.

Atmospheric Pressure Ionization Mass Spectrometry (APIMS) is widely accepted as a powerful tool for pure gas analysis, given its unique ability for real-time, multi-component measurement down to parts-per-trillion levels.  Extrel, the trusted source for Mass Spectrometers since 1964, delivers optimal performance, reliability, and ease of use with its new VeraSpec APIMS, enabling real-time monitoring of the most critical impurities - trace oxygen, moisture, methane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, ammonia and more – in a single instrument.

Developed for research, electronic gas, and semiconductor applications, it is the first Extrel APIMS system available that incorporates an integrated touch screen graphical user interface for point-of-use visual indicators in gas purity, offering increased operational efficiency.

Extremely simple to use, the VeraSpec APIMS has an intuitive web-based interface that allows the user to operate it with ease, and can check instrument status, review data trends, and run detailed analysis with the click of a button. Maintenance is also reduced with the option of scheduled automated calibrations.

Chuck DeCarlo, Business Development Manager for Extrel stated, “Our latest VeraSpec APIMS system combines both Electron Impact and atmospheric pressure ionization sources. This unique dual-source ionization configuration offers an unparalleled analysis range. It allows for the complete analysis of all components in the pure gas sample – from PPT to % level – in one system, making it extremely cost-effective.”

Extrel will be demonstrating its gas analysis solutions at Semicon West in Booth 933. Visitors to the booth will learn how the VeraSpec APIMS system monitors a wide range of gases and impurities with the highest combined sensitivity and flexibility from a single analyzer.  Experts will also be on hand to discuss Extrel cost-effective solutions for continuous semiconductor bulk gas purity verification.

  • Tiger Optics, a world leader in the development and manufacturing of advanced, laser-based analytical equipment, launched its new HALO Max QCL product line, a new generation of Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy (CRDS) analyzers based on mid-infrared Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) technology.

The Tiger Optics QCL-CRDS enables real-timeparts-per-trillion (ppt)-level detection of trace contaminants, including carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2), in ultra-high purity (UHP) gases typically used in semiconductor manufacturing.

The semiconductor industry has long suffered with unstable batch sampling technologies, which are difficult and expensive to operate. Legacy gas chromatography (GC) technology requires helium carrier gas to achieve ppt-level sensitivity and is expensive. With the Tiger Optics CRDS, neither calibration nor carrier gas is required, enabling savings in operating costs over hundreds of thousands of dollars over the life of the instrument.

“We are proud to launch this first-of-a-kind analyzer incorporating the most advanced laser technology on the market.” says Erika Coyne, President, Tiger Optics. “Working with key semiconductor and industrial gas customers ensured we addressed their requirements for real-time, continuous UHP gas analysis. The HALO Max QCL measures critical impurities easily setting a new standard for on-line continuous UHP gas analysis.”

  • Based on Quantum Cascade Laser Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy (QCL-CRDS),  the HALO Max QCL offers continuous parts-per-trillion (ppt) detection capability for carbon monoxide (CO) or carbon dioxide (CO2) in UHP bulk gases.  It incorporates mid-infrared QCL technology to achieve the ultimate sensitivity for absolute measurement with the freedom from calibration.

With excellent speed of response at ppb levels and below, the Max QCL CO provides continuous measurement with no batch processing which is typical with GCs.  This is a robust and easy to use solution.

The HALO Max QCL perfectly complements Tiger’s HALO KA Max series (for H2O, NH3 and CH4), the HALO OK (for O2) and our other QCL-based analyzer, the HALO Max QCL CO2 to utilize the advantages of CRDS for detection of a large variety of critical trace impurities.

High Performance APIMS Total Solution for Bulk Gas & Specialty Gas Monitoring...

  • Contamination is costly. Semiconductor manufacturers need the ability to continuously verify the purity of process gases in real-time and detect trace contamination at concentrations in the low parts-per-trillion (ppt).   Ultra-high purity gas analyzers (mass spectrometers) from Extrel have the speed, sensitivity, and ease-of-use to continuously monitor Nitrogen, Argon, Helium, Oxygen, and Hydrogen supply streams and rapidly report ppt-level contamination to protect the electronics fabrication process. The Extrel VeraSpecAPIMS combines Atmospheric Pressure Ionization (API) technology with a high-performance mass spectrometer optimized over five decades in industrial gas analysis.

    • One analyzer for all contaminants
    • Fully automated, real-time contamination alerts
    • Reliable 24-7 process protection
    • Maximized wafer yields

Extrel is the only mass spectrometer manufacturer in the world that utilizes a 19mm, tri-filter quadrupole mass filter in semiconductor gas analysis for the very best performance, reliability, and uptime.
