 Press Releases

  • Particle Measuring Systems has announced the purchase of a new building to increase manufacturing capacity and will relocate their global headquarters to the new site.

May 12, 2022, Boulder, CO – Particle Measuring Systems (PMS) announces the acquisition of a new building for the relocation of its global manufacturing and commercial headquarters from Airport Blvd. in Boulder, Colorado, to the Boulder Technology Center in Niwot, Colorado, USA.

The new facility is over twice the size of the current HQ at 124,000 square feet. It will house the manufacturing and business operations previously located in Boulder. Activities have already begun to build out the current space to meet PMS’s specific, long-term operational needs to optimize workflow and operational efficiencies across core business functions.

“This is a unique opportunity for us to design a space that accommodates the needs of all our employees while creating a positive customer and employee experience. This is a long-term strategic project for PMS and demonstrates significant capital investment by our parent company, Spectris. We are targeting operational occupancy of the building in early 2024,” said John Mitchell, President of Particle Measuring Systems. John continued, “The vision for our new PMS HQ is to create an engaging, inclusive, and welcoming workplace with employees and customers in mind.”

PMS has engaged the architecture firm DLR Group for the planning and design of the building. DLR Group has extensive experience designing mixed-use industrial manufacturing facilities.

This year PMS celebrates the 50th Anniversary of its founding. Since 1972, PMS has grown into a solutions and thought leader for contamination monitoring and control for clean manufacturing facilities. They are the industry leader in monitoring sensitivity. PMS delivers not only contamination instruments, but also expert consultants, data management software, and training and education to their customers around the globe.

  • As Particle Measuring Systems reaches its 50th Anniversary, we look back on half a century of innovations and growth.

February 23, 2022, Boulder, CO – Particle Measuring Systems (PMS) announces the 50th Anniversary of its inception. Started in 1972 as a cloud microphysics company, PMS has grown into a solutions and thought leader for contamination monitoring and control within clean manufacturing facilities at facilities around the globe. PMS was founded in 1972 in Boulder, Colorado, USA by Dr. Robert G. Knollenberg who invented the laser particle counter to count and measure the sizes of particles in air. In 1978 PMS sent the first particle spectrometer into space on the Pioneer Venus Probe. In 1985 it incorporated its portfolio of particle monitors into full Facility Monitoring Systems. In 1996 PMS was acquired by Spectris, whose focus is to equip their customers with the ability to reduce time to market, improve processes, quality and yield. PMS has since developed into the industry leader in monitoring sensitivity and is the only complete contamination monitoring solution provider. PMS delivers not only microcontamination instruments, but also expert consultants, data management software, and training and education to our global customers.
As thought leaders and industry experts, the PMS teams have trained contamination monitoring professionals around the world using their in-house “Particle College” curriculum. PMS employees are recognized as authorities in the field and are frequently asked to present at industry events and write technical papers for publications. PMS maintains an extensive knowledge center to educate and support contamination control specialists.
“It has been gratifying to see this business, that started with me designing and building instruments in my basement while juggling my full-time work in academia, grow into the industry leader for contamination monitoring in controlled environments”, said Dr. Robert Knollenberg, founder, Particle Measuring Systems. This sentiment was supported by John Mitchell, 4th President of PMS, who followed, “The key to our success is having employees who embrace our values of Aim High, Be True and Own It. I’m immensely proud to have been part of this growth while being a company with a purpose: making the world cleaner, healthier, and more productive. I look forward to what we will accomplish for our customers, employees, and the world far into the future.”

  • Ultra DI® 20
Designed specifically for ultrapure water systems, the Ultra DI® 20 quickly obtains statistically meaningful data and will count and size contaminants as small as 20 nm....

  • High-Sensitivity Liquid Particle Counter Designed Specifically for Ultrapure Water Systems.

The Ultra DI 20® Achieves Critically Important, Statistical Data and Provides Benchmark Particle Detection

Consistency helps you get more out of your data, even if the instrument moves, so you have more control over your process and can rely on highly-accurate and specialized data that applies to particle counting in ultrapure water. Improved sensitivity allows for detection of process variations more quickly with 20 nm polystyrene latex (PSL) and 9 nm gold (Au).

The Ultra DI® 20 is one of Particle Measuring Systems' "Industry Leading Sensitivity" products, which means that there are no products on the market that are more sensitive than these, and only PMS officers a line of products covering this many elements of production monitoring. PMS currently leads the market in monitoring performance, sensitivity, and reliability in the Ultra Pure field, among many other contamination monitoring fields.

  • Chem 20™
The world's first 20 nm chemical particle counter, the Chem 20™ is globally considered the most sensitive particle sensor for high purity process chemicals, and is the latest addition to Particle Measuring Systems' full line of liquid particle counters....

  • Leading-edge microelectronic processes require very clean process chemicals that are highly filtered and regulated to a particle size of 20 nm or below. Extensive data on chemical distribution and packaging systems proves that the Chem 20™ Chemical Particle Counter, with 20nm sensitivity, detects larger concentrations of particles with better statistics than competitive products. The Chem 20™ is a valuable tool that enables facility and process engineers to quickly detect and characterize chemical particle sources before they impact process and device performance.

The Chem 20™ is one of Particle Measuring Systems' "Industry Leading Sensitivity" products, which means that there are no products on the market that are more sensitive, and only PMS offers a line of products covering this many elements of production monitoring. Particle Measuring Systems currently leads the market in monitoring performance, sensitivity, and reliability in the Ultrapure Water, Chemical and Airborne Molecular Contamination Monitoring fields. The Chem 20™ is another product that allows Chemical manufacturing companies to maintain accurate, data-driven decisions to both improve performance and yeild.

  • SLS-20
The Syringe Liquid Particle Sampler: SLS-20 is specifically designed for Chem 20™ batch sampling, and is ideal for precise, small-volume sampling....

  • The SLS-20 Syringe Liquid Particle Sampler enables Particle Measuring Systems' Chem 20™ or other Chem 20-HI particle counters to operate in batch sampling applications. The system consists of an SLS-20 for either corrosive or non-corrosive liquids, all connections necessary to interface with a compatible Chem 20™ or Chem 20-HI particle counter, and optional software.
