  • Senator Sees First-Hand the Benefits of Optics & Photonics on Local, National Economy

(Ocean Springs, MS) – Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) toured PFG Precision Optics earlier this week to see first-hand the operations of one of the highly regarded participants in the optics and photonics industry. During the site visit, Senator Wicker and his wife Gayle met with technicians, engineers, and management to learn about the manufacturing of high precision optical components, which PFG Precision Optics provides to the defense, semiconductor and medical industries as well as to scientists at universities and national laboratories around the country.

“It was a privilege to host Senator Wicker at PFG Optics today,” stated PFG Precision Optics President Travis Green. “We appreciate his interest in our company and the photonics industry. It was a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase the impact that our optics technology has on our everyday lives.”

PFG Precision Optics has made high-quality, high-precision optics in the US for more than four decades. Example end-applications of its products include sighting, targeting and laser range-finding for the military; cataract surgery equipment; semiconductor wafer inspection; and many important spectroscopy and metrology applications. The company is a family-owned business in its fourth generation and abides by the values of quality, hard work, integrity, and respect.

“Cutting-edge technologies like photonics and optics are crucial to our national defense, economic innovation, and competitiveness,” Senator Wicker said. “I appreciated the chance to spend some time at PFG Precision Optics. Their products and skilled employees are laying the groundwork for America’s future, right here in Mississippi.”

Historically, the United States has been the world leader in deploying optics and photonics research to power cutting-edge technologies, but global competition has put our leadership position at risk, causing a substantial loss of global market share to overseas competitors as well as thousands of US jobs.

Through the National Photonics Initiative (NPI), PFG Precision Optics is working to raise awareness about photonics and unite industry, academia, and government experts to identify and advance areas of photonics critical to maintaining US competitiveness and national security: advancing manufacturing, communication and information technology, defense and national security, energy, and health and medicine. US investment in these photonics-driven fields will create jobs and grow our economy, protect and improve the lives of our people, and position the United States as a global technology leader.

  • Optical Beamsplitters
Custom Beamsplitter Supplier and Manufacturer – Both Cube and Plate Beamsplitters...

  • PFG produces custom beamsplitter plates and cubes in the UV, visible, and MWIR for a wide variety of different industries.

    Plate Beamsplitter

Plate beamsplitters have an advantage over cube beamsplitters due to their reduced size, weight, and complexity.  Plate beamsplitters require the light to traverse much less glass than cube beamsplitters and don’t require a cement layer, which influences the laser-induced damage threshold of the beamsplitter.  Plate beamsplitters also have fewer faces that require coatings.  For these reasons, plate beamsplitters are often chosen for simplicity, cost, and/or high laser damage threshold applications.  Where plate beamsplitters are not as advantageous are in broadband and polarizing applications.

    Cube Beamsplitter

Because the polarization effects of a coating are enhanced when immersed inside glass, cube beamsplitters are useful for creating polarizing beamsplitters.  Polarizers and broadband beamsplitters are much simpler and more cost-effective when done as a cube beamsplitter.  Some customers also find the general shape of a cube beamsplitter makes them easier to mount and align in their system.

  • Anti-Reflective Coatings - AR Coatings
Optical Thin Film Coatings - Anti-Reflective Coatings - Single-wavelength or broadband AR’s in the range 300nm through 5µm...

  • PFG has been producing industry-leading AR coatings for 42 years.  This long history gives us the expertise to apply AR coatings to the full array of optical glasses, crystals, and IR substrates.  Known for their high durability, our AR coatings can survive all MIL-spec durability and environmental requirements. Complimenting our spherical and flat polishing capabilities, we apply AR coatings to our in-house lenses, windows, and prisms.  Our design and engineering team can also create a custom AR coating for any need on customer-supplied substrates.

    Single-Layer AR Coatings

The single layer MgF2 coating is the oldest and simplest type of AR coating.  While most efficient for high-index glasses, these single layer MgF2 coatings can often be a cost-effective compromise over more complicated broad-band AR coatings.

    Broad-band AR coatings

Broad-band AR coatings are multi-layered coatings that are tailored to AR the exact band-width of the system.  These AR coatings can be designed in the visible, SWIR, MWIR, or any combination, and cover most any angle-of-incidence for converging or diverging beams.

  • Optical Lenses - Spherical Lenses
PFG has extensive lens manufacturing capabilities using all types of optical glasses, fused silica and crystalline materials including CaF2, Ge, Si, ZnSe, and ZnS....
