A variety of systems, such as dry vacuum pumps, turbomolecular pumps and point-of-use abatement systems are offered to optimise performance across the range of applications, from light duty to the heaviest duty processes.

 Press Releases

  • The new 200,000-square-foot facility will leverage the latest manufacturing and digital technologies to support the fast-growing North American semiconductor market with services and solutions for the efficient and environmentally sustainable production of chips.

Semiconductor manufacturing is essential to supporting developments across the technology, electronics, transport, scientific and healthcare sectors. A recent surge in demand has seen widespread investment in the US’ manufacturing capability, and Edwards’ investment in a new Arizona facility represents a significant step forward in ensuring the supply chain capacity required to support that growth.

“Unprecedented growth in the semiconductor market to meet the world's growing consumer demand has resulted in extraordinary growth in demand for Edwards’ products and services,” said Troy Metcalf, President of Edwards Semiconductor Service. “Looking ahead, this growth is set to continue, with our customers in the USA investing billions of dollars in additional manufacturing capacity. At Edwards, we have a long tradition of supporting our customers with local service and manufacturing capabilities, and our investment in the Chandler facility continues that tradition. With the utilisation of the latest in smart manufacturing techniques and advanced automation, this new facility will be instrumental in supporting the safe, productive and environmentally sustainable manufacturing of semiconductors in North America.”

The Chandler facility will also feature warehousing facilities, factory areas, meeting rooms, and a dedicated training centre. It is anticipated that the new facility will create approximately 200 new jobs in the local area, with scope to grow along with the market.

“Arizona is grateful Edwards has selected Chandler as the site of its newest manufacturing facility,” said Governor Doug Ducey. “This announcement furthers Arizona’s reputation as an unrivaled manufacturing destination and strengthens the state’s growing semiconductor supply chain.”

“Edwards is a global leader in the semiconductor supply chain and we are proud the company will be part of Arizona’s semiconductor industry,” said Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority. “Edwards’ innovative solutions in vacuum and abatement for semiconductor manufacturing will advance Arizona’s leadership as a semiconductor hub while creating hundreds of skilled jobs. We look forward to supporting Edwards as they begin production at their manufacturing facility later this year.”

Construction of the new site in Chandler is underway and from the third quarter of this year, the facility will commence the remanufacturing and assembly of equipment essential to meet the demand for new semiconductor fab requirements. It will utilize advanced automation and data solutions to disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, replace and reassemble vacuum pumps. Reduced transportation through close customer proximity, along with water recycling and the use of renewable energy will all contribute to more sustainable manufacturing operations.

“Chandler continues to attract significant investment from the semiconductor supply chain and we are thrilled to announce this latest addition,” said Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke. “Edwards went through an exhaustive site selection process and ultimately chose Chandler due to our first-class labour pool, excellent transportation access, and great quality of life. We look forward to partnering with Edwards as they invest in our community in the months and years ahead.”

"Greater Phoenix is at the centre of a rapidly accelerating semiconductor movement, and the Edwards Vacuum expansion in Chandler is the latest addition to our booming industry ecosystem," said Chris Camacho, President and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. "They provide a critical component to the manufacturing process that helps the region maintain a competitive edge, and we look forward to being a partner in their continued growth and success."

  • Edwards Vacuum strengthens its presence in Massachusetts with a new facility dedicated to cryopump manufacturing and research and development. The new site is currently under construction in Haverhill, 36 miles north of Boston; work is ongoing around the clock.

This new state-of-the-art facility will enable Edwards to be even more competitive in the current demanding market.

Once completed, the 136,000 square feet building will accommodate all new product design and manufacturing activities currently performed in the Edwards facility in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Relocation is scheduled to start in late Q2 2022.

The building features a low heat absorption design geared towards sustainability, with solar panels, a rainwater capture system, and minimal irrigation needed.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place in September 2021 and saw the participation of Haverhill authorities, including mayor James J. Fiorentini.

Edwards celebrated the occasion by donating a $20,000 cheque to the local charity Haverhill Promise, whose mission is to ensure that all local students achieve grade-level reading by the end of 3rd grade. This contribution will help purchase learning materials and support programs in STEM, Science, and Engineering. This initiative is in partnership with Dacon Corporation, Marwick Associates, and Equity Industrial Partners.

Debbora Ahlgren, Product Company Chelmsford General Manager, commented: “The new facility in Haverhill will be a Center of Cryogenic Innovation offering our customers and the market advances in manufacturing, a Materials Science Innovation Lab, and the capacity that is required to meet customer demand.”

  • The acquisition includes assets of two affiliates, North Park Metalworkers, Inc. and Peak Precision Technologies, Inc. In 2021 they had revenues of approximately MUSD 41 (MSEK 351). The acquired companies have around 185 employees.

Ceres Technologies, Inc. was founded in 2011 and is located in the Hudson Valley, New York area. As well as providing gas and vapour delivery equipment Ceres also provides contract manufacturing of process tools for OEMs and research organizations, and engineering services for semiconductor and industrial customers.

North Park Metalworkers, Inc. produces welded enclosures, frames and machined parts, and is also located in the Hudson Valley, New York area.

Peak Precision Technologies, Inc. supplies precision welded and brazed fabrications, and is located in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Kate Wilson, President of Edwards Semiconductor, said: “This is an exciting milestone for Edwards’ semiconductor business. The Ceres acquisition will allow us to expand our liquid chemical dispense offer globally through additional technology and know-how. It is also a valuable step forward in responding to the increased need to recycle and reuse gases in semiconductor process technology and improve sustainability in line with the industry’s environmental objectives. I look forward to the benefits that this acquisition will bring to the ongoing growth of our semiconductor business and the breadth of products and service we are able to offer our customers.”

Ceres CEO Kevin Brady, added: “The joining of Ceres to the Edwards team is an excellent strategic fit. Ceres ability to develop and manufacture world class semiconductor and process equipment and our technically superior molecule delivery platforms along with Edwards market positioning, distribution channels and financial capability will further accelerate the growth and deployment of Ceres offerings. Ceres skills and attributes will prove valuable in the Edwards global product solutions business and facilitate and complement new and exciting projects and programs already envisioned collectively. We look forward to our new journey as part of the Edwards team.”

The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close during the second quarter of 2022.
