inspire AG chooses Notion Systems' n.jet EHD platform with Scrona's EHD printing technology to take additive manufacturing to the next level in terms of resolution. Scrona's groundbreaking EHD technology enables not only the smallest structure sizes in the micrometer range, but also the processing of highly viscous materials in the pascal second range. inspire will use this technology to open completely new applications for the field of additive manufacturing at its site in St. Gallen.

As a strategic partner of ETH Zurich, inspire AG is the leading Swiss competence center for technology transfer to the MEM industries. It conducts research for industry, develops state-of-the-art technologies, methods and processes and solves problems in all areas of product innovation and production technology. inspire brings together the best partners from industry, universities and technical colleges for joint projects and has the brains, knowledge, and experience to successfully turn ideas into innovations.

"I have been following the development of EHD technology for a long time as it has huge potential. Scrona has also made significant progress with the latest printhead developments. I am therefore very pleased to now have the latest version of this technology available in our laboratory," says Fritz Bircher, Head of Advanced AM Technologies at inspire.

"We are very happy to have inspire as an innovative and application-oriented partner for the development of new fields of application for Scrona's still young but trendsetting EHD technology and are very much looking forward to the projects with Fritz Bircher and his team," says Dr. Kai J. Keller, VP Business Development Europe at Notion Systems.

"We look forward to continuing our collaboration with inspire as an innovative and industry-oriented research laboratory and as a user of our EHD technology. Our goal is to further develop the Scrona MEMS-based printhead technology to industrial maturity for volume production in microelectronics and related fields. The feedback from Fritz Bircher, one of the leading AM and inkjet experts, is an important part of our application-oriented product development," says Dr. Patrick Galliker, CEO at Scrona.

    Scrona AG

Scrona is a spin-off of ETH Zurich, one of the world's top 10 research universities.  Scrona has developed the industry's first multi-nozzle 3D printing platform that can digitally print the impossible with sub-micron precision, on any material and at scale, improving and accelerating the manufacturing of today's and tomorrow's products.  Scrona's patented electrostatic printing technology has the potential to transform the manufacturing of semiconductors, displays and many other products by reducing production steps tenfold while significantly reducing material, energy and water consumption.  Find out more at www.Scrona.com.

  • Notion Systems, a leading supplier of industrial inkjet coating systems for functional materials and EV Group (EVG), a leading supplier of wafer bonding and lithography equipment for the MEMS, nanotechnology and semiconductor markets, today announced that they have entered into an agreement to develop the first fully integrated and automated nanoimprint lithography (NIL) solution with inkjet coating capabilities.

Per the joint agreement, the two companies will develop a customized inkjet module to be integrated in EVG’s industry-benchmark HERCULES® NIL platform based on EVG’s SmartNIL® technology. The new inkjet module will be complementary to EVG’s existing spin-coating modules and will be offered as an alternative option for dispensing NIL photoresists on substrates for high-volume-manufacturing (HVM) applications for NIL that have unique film deposition and uniformity needs. Through this partnership, EVG further cements its leadership in NIL with inkjet capabilities in a fully integrated and automated NIL solution.

“As both a pioneer and the established market leader in NIL, EVG partners with companies across the nanoimprint supply chain within its NILPhotonics® Competence Center to continually innovate NIL to support new applications and provide greater benefits for our customers,” stated Dr. Thomas Glinsner, corporate technology director at EV Group. “By teaming up with Notion Systems, a specialized supplier of industrial, high-volume-production inkjet systems with an established and field-proven solution for the optical/display, electronics and semiconductor markets, we can reduce the time to market for incorporating this unique additive manufacturing approach to our own NIL portfolio, and more quickly bring the performance benefits of inkjet-based nanoimprint to our customers.”

“We are pleased to be partnering with EV Group on this important development for the NIL market,” stated Dr. Kai Keller, VP Business Development, Notion Systems. “With its high precision, drop placement accuracy and uniformity, our n.jet inkjet deposition technology in combination with EVG’s SmartNIL technology provides the perfect match for supporting new NIL applications that cannot be met with current spin coating approaches. This collaboration provides EVG with a powerful new and unique additive manufacturing capability to support its customers’ growing needs, while at the same time providing us with first-mover status in the rapidly growing NIL market.”

Demonstrations of EVG’s HERCULES SmartNIL UV-NIL system in conjunction with standalone inkjet deposition capabilities are available at the company’s NILPhotonics Competence Center located at EVG’s corporate headquarters. More information on EVG’s HERCULES NIL system can be found at https://www.evgroup.com/products/nanoimprint-lithography/uv-nil-smartnil/hercules-nil/
