  Press Releases

  • 25.04.2024 - The goal is the joint further development of ifm solutions for the Industrial IoT (IIoT) based on Microsoft Azure

The two companies want to generate added value for their joint customers in their IIoT applications. The first results have already emerged from the cooperation between ifm and Microsoft. The new remoteConnect module is based on Microsoft Azure as part of the moneo IIoT cloud solution. Users can use this to implement secure monitoring and remote maintenance of machines and systems. In the future, more and more ifm products will be developed so that they are “Azure ready”. This will not only affect the software products of the moneo IIoT suite, but also hardware, such as edge gateways or sensors, should be able to be easily integrated into the user's operating environment that is based on Microsoft Azure. This seamless integration will also reduce hurdles for users when it comes to obtaining important information more easily and quickly from the data generated on the machines and systems by using AI applications. In the future, evaluations of this data could be generated using natural language, for example. The functionalities for IIoT applications would then be similar to the options that Microsoft Copilot already offers in many areas today.

The collaboration with Microsoft and the use of artificial intelligence will also advance ifm in other cases. Typical examples are after-sales services and support, where the aim is to find information very quickly and in a targeted manner and make it available to the customer. Using the example of the exhibit with the moneo IIoT cloud solution at ifm's trade fair stand, the two companies show in a tangible way where the journey will go in the future.

  • Smart process sensors with embedded IO-Link
Implement smarter process sensors designed to withstand harsh manufacturing environments and caustic solutions. Collect more accurate raw source data via digital signals over IO-Link to increase insight into machine health....

  • ifm offers smart process sensors that monitor flow, temperature, level, and conductivity of liquid and gas media used in semiconductor manufacturing. Almost the entire product portfolio includes embedded IO-Link technology that eliminates analog to digital conversion errors for increased accuracy and provides an interoperable method of collecting production data.

Robust sensors designed to work in harsh industrial environments ensure you can trust the measurements collected during production. Tested to withstand extreme conditions, including thermal shocks and vibration, the ifm sensor portfolio benefits from 50 years of experience producing high quality sensors. Smart sensors provide increased access to the raw source data you need to better understand the health of critical equipment. The benefits include:

    • Increased machine availability
    • Increased wafer yield
    • Reduced scrap rate
    • Reduced energy consumption

Explore the full product portfolio and common wafer fabrication applications.

  • Edge Vibration Controllers (VSE/VSA series)
The smart vibration monitoring portfolio from ifm includes industrialized versions of all necessary components to monitor changes in the health of critical mechanical equipment, including a range from single point to multipoint advanced programming....

  • The ifm vibration monitoring product portfolio provides access to real-time machine health data to predict impending failures, in order to limit catastrophic damage and avoid significant production disruptions. Sub Fab process monitoring enhances the semiconductor chip and silicon wafer quality while increasing availability of equipment.

Vibration edge controllers alert to changes in mechanical vibration patterns that indicate impending issues. Common applications include monitoring of:

    • Dry vacuum pumps to indicate a loss of vacuum pressure in the deposition chamber
    • Bearing fault frequencies and spindle health on CMP polishers to ensure consistent wafer thickness
    • Ultrapure water skid pumps for optimal performance to ensure continuous water flow and reduce energy consumption

With flexible communication protocols, ifm solutions push the raw source data from Sub Fab equipment wherever you need it. Access to this continuous, real-time data leads to more informed decisions.

  • IO-Link masters (AL13xx series)
The IO-Link master uses a dual pathway to send digital process values from smart sensors to the PLC for machine control and to higher level software systems for advanced analysis via the dedicated IIoT port....

  • IO-Link is a revolutionary industrial communication protocol supported by over 300 industrial engineering companies. It is the foundation of an accessible, flexible, and interoperable smart manufacturing technology stack. The ifm IO-Link master provides a dual pathway to send production data to both the PLC for machine control and to any higher level software platforms on-premises or in the cloud via the IIoT port, including ERP, SCADA, MES, CMMS, EDA, CIM systems, and more. By including the dedicated IIoT port, the ifm IO-Link master ensures that the data flow to software systems for additional trending and analysis does not interfere with PLC communication to ensure there is no lag in operational commands.

The technical specs of the AL13xx series provide increased flexibility in manufacturing environments. It is field-mountable to reduce cabinet space requirements, and supports ethernet wiring, Bluetooth mesh for wireless communication, and LTE routers for cellular connection. The most important benefit of IO-Link is its flexibility and interoperability with other industrial and industry-specific hardware and software. It ensures you can collect, send, and access your production data in real time from wherever you need it.
