Calgon Carbon Reactivation Study Shows PFAS Removal and >99.99%
Calgon Carbon conducted a study on the of PFAS during the reactivation of activated carbon. Reactivation is a high-temperature thermal process commonly used by municipalities and industrial users to recycle their used activated carbon and destroy >99.99% contaminants it has removed. The study revealed that PFAS compounds are effectively removed from spent carbon through the reactivation process, achieving over 99.99% destruction of PFAS using the company’s furnace and abatement system. These findings, published in the peer-reviewed journal Remediation - The Journal of Environmental Cleanup Costs, Technologies, & Techniques, provide valuable insights into the treatment of PFAS contaminants and support the use of Calgon Carbon’s FILTRASORB® GAC as a reliable technology for removing PFAS. Calgon Carbon Celebrates Plant Expansion in Mississippi
Calgon Carbon has successfully completed a capacity expansion at its Pearlington, Mississippi facility. By adding a second virgin activated carbon production line, the company, known as the world’s largest manufacturer of activated carbon and reactivation services, will now produce approximately 200 of virgin activated carbon annually from two U.S. based plants. This significant expansion aims to meet the growing demand for activated carbon worldwide, particularly in the fight against PFAS “forever chemicals” in drinking water and wastewater. PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are persistent pollutants that pose significant health risks. Calgon Carbon’s FILTRASORB® activated carbon plays a crucial role in removing these harmful substances, ensuring cleaner drinking water and safer wastewater management.
