Overview

Ireland continues to win international investments from global corporations because it is seen as a business location with a highly qualified workforce that has a unique capacity to improve, innovate, and initiate new ideas, processes, and ways of working, making businesses more dynamic, efficient and ultimately more profitable. Ireland’s inward Investment Promotion & Development agency, IDA Ireland is responsible for the attraction and development of foreign investment in Ireland. Today, Ireland is home to companies such as Facebook, Sanofi, Intel, Yahoo, Adobe, Microsoft, SAP, Liebherr, HP, Apple, LinkedIn, Zalando, Deutsche Bank, Google and Amazon.com, to name just a few. 1,800 overseas companies have chosen to invest in Ireland as their European base and are involved in a wide range of activities in sectors as diverse as engineering, information communications technologies, pharmaceuticals, medical technologies, financial and international services.

  Press Releases

  • Silicon Island: Ireland's National Semiconductor Strategy is an ambitious strategy designed to create high-value jobs, secure long-term investment, and cement Ireland’s role as a critical player in Europe’s semiconductor future.

Ireland already has a robust semiconductor sector with over 130 companies, 20,000 jobs, and €13.5 billion in annual exports. But with the right support, this sector can do far more: a recent KPMG study shows that by 2040, Ireland could support up to 34,500 new semiconductor roles.

Silicon Island is informed by a public stakeholder consultation and engagement across Government, industry, academia, and research organisations. The Strategy recognises the semiconductor industry as a crucial enabler of innovation, growth, and the continued operation of many other sectors in Ireland and globally.

The Strategy is accompanied by a preliminary version of a comprehensive mapping of Ireland’s semiconductor ecosystem, which is currently being finalised by the Department as part of its broader work in support of the sector.
