Overview

esmo semicon provides solutions for demanding semiconductor test environments, including handling and automation systems, test head manipulators, and docking and interfacing solutions. Our technical specialists develop customized solutions for frontend and backend semiconductor test cells and for testing complex devices such as SoCs and AI chips under demanding conditions. Project support covers the complete path from requirements definition and test-cell design through manufacturing, installation, training, and service. With global support across major semiconductor regions and time zones (incl. USA, Europe, and Asia), we help customers implement precise, reliable, and efficient test processes. Our solutions support test-cell integration, automation, and throughput optimization throughout semiconductor development, testing, and production.

  Press Releases

  • The Apollo Quad Handler combines engineering flexibility with production efficiency for semiconductor final test.

Designed for complex devices such as SoCs and AI chips, it supports engineering trials, low- to mid-volume production and selected higher-throughput applications without ultra-high parallelism.

It supports up to 50,000 devices per day, depending on test time, device mix and configuration. Its interfaces handle tray, tube and tape formats, with AMR/AGV readiness for future automation.

Quad-site mode handles devices from 2.5 x 2.5 mm to 50 x 50 mm; single-site mode supports devices up to 125 x 120 mm. Adaptable site pitches, reusable loadboards and tool-less RFID-enabled conversion kits support fast changeovers, including changeovers in less than five minutes.

Thermal control ranges from -80°C to +225°C. Utility requirements include 200 l/min CDA and 8 l/h LN2, depending on operating conditions. Real-time monitoring supports stable operation and ATE integration.

  • helix-e is a software-controlled docking system for semiconductor test environments. Four electrically synchronized docking modules on a rigid base plate, supported by four guide bushings for pre-alignment, provide a stable docking platform.

The adjustable z-stack features individual z-position measurement, z-stop teach-in, parallel alignment and fine adjustment of the docking stop while docked, without undocking.

An optional mechanical hard stop is available. helix-e 30 provides 30 kgf per module and 120 kgf total locking force, a 0.0–5.0 mm dock adjustment range and dock time below 18 seconds.

helix-e 150 provides 150 kgf per module and 600 kgf total, a 0.0–6.5 mm range and dock time below 12 seconds. Both models provide ±\pm±0.05 mm docking accuracy and ±\pm±0.05 mm x/y repeatability.

Z-repeatability is ±\pm±0.02 mm under software control or ±\pm±0.01 mm with a hard stop. Compatible with most common test head types, helix-e can typically be installed without an alignment jig in most applications.

  • ares evo autodock is an automated docking option for the ares evo final-test manipulator, adding one-button position changes, force-based stop control, and automated finding and positioning of test heads.

Integrated vision control and absolute value encoders support controlled, repeatable setup while reducing manual intervention during setup and changeover.

The manipulator provides 200 mm x, 440 mm y and 365 mm z travel, plus 3° tumble, 180° rotation, 180° twist and ±\pm±0.3° theta adjustment.

Load-capacity configurations include 400 kg with motorized z-axis and optional electrical x- and y-axes and twist, or 750 kg with motorized x-, y- and z-axes plus twist.

The platform requires no counterweights, uses a vertical pillar for cable management, and has a small footprint for space-conscious test-floor layouts. Optional remote control enables fully automatic mode.

The separate autosetup option adds vision-based automatic detection of prober or handler position.

  Products

  • talos – easy-to-use device handler

talos is an easy-to-use, modular device handling system for semiconductor engineering tests.

Its flexible platform supports changing test scenarios across package types and site pitches; in many applications, existing load boards and sockets can continue to be used.

Active thermal control (ATC) measures and controls temperature directly at the contact plunger from -60 °C to +175 °C, supporting tri-temp testing and multiple automated test cycles at different temperatures without user interaction.

Manual tray, tube and tape loading and unloading enable mixed-media workflows, free pin1 orientation and software-supported resorting.

A 4+1-axis portal pick-and-place robot provides 350 N standard contact force; up to 700 N is available on request.

A 15.6-inch widescreen multi-touch HMI and integrated camera support position teaching.

Ethernet remote control, RS232 as standard, and optional TCP/IP or GPIB interfaces support integration; tester compatibility depends on the specific setup.

  • titan evo auto-dock manipulator

The titan evo is a universal test manipulator for semiconductor test configurations, with electric x-, y- and z-axis movement, twist and swing, and spring-assisted twist/theta compliance. Its spring-assisted winch eliminates the need for a counterweight and reduces overall floor load. The optional tumble axis is manual or electric.

    Load-capacity configurations are up to 450 kg (992 lbs), 750 kg (1,654 lbs) or 1,100 kg (2,425 lbs). Travel is 200 mm x, 420 mm y and 1,200 mm z; adjustment includes 360° tumble, 290° column rotation (±\pm±5°), 180° twist and 2° theta.

The optional titan autodock adds one-button position changes, force-based stop control and absolute value encoders for automated test-head finding and positioning. Optional remote control enables fully automatic mode. The optional titan autosetup adds vision-based equipment-position detection for frequently changed prober or handler setups. With autolock or CUH lock, docking may not be required.

  • esmo's X-change Cart – Device Interface Board (DIB) exchange system

esmo's X-change Cart is a semi-automated Device Interface Board (DIB) exchange system for semiconductor test environments. One operator can complete a load board change in under one minute through a structured, HMI-controlled process. The cart locks, rotates and transfers boards, transports two load boards simultaneously, supports repeatable handling, reduces operator strain and minimizes the risk of board damage.

ESD-safe construction, integrated sensing and operator guidance support controlled handling. Motion includes 180° locking-mechanism rotation, 180° Y-axis rotation and tower swivel up to ±\pm±90°. The cart interfaces with test heads, probers, DIB loaders, storage racks and maintenance workbenches, and is compatible with leading ATE platforms including Teradyne, Advantest and SPEA.

For fully automated handling, the interface tower can optionally be mounted on a customized AGV or AMR. The modular design supports additional features and future adaptations.
