  • Jena, Germany - Piezosystem Jena GmbH (Precisioneers Group in the USA), a leading manufacturer of piezo-based nanopositioning systems, introduces the new MIPOS 800. It is the next addition to the MIPOS objective positioner series, designed to meet the demands of high-precision microscopy applications. Offering a travel range of 800 μm in open-loop and 650 μm in closed-loop, the MIPOS 800 guarantees high accuracy, speed and stability based on its high stiffness.


    Equipped with integrated strain gauge (SG) sensors, the system provides resolution down to 12 nm which is ideal for various fine focusing tasks. The closed-loop control system continuously tracks and regulates the position of the piezo and hence ensures highly reliable performance for the positioning of objectives in the Z-direction.


    The MIPOS 800 features a unique parallelogram flexure guidance design that guarantees high parallel motion across the entire travel range without influencing the optical axis. The design includes an integrated pre-load so the actuator can operate at a high resonant frequency. Additionally, the MIPOS 800 can accommodate objectives up to 42 mm in diameter which makes it versatile for various experimental set-ups.
    A key feature of the MIPOS 800 is its ultra-fast response time in combination with a matching controller system. With rapid settling times and high mechanical stability, researchers and engineers can benefit from accelerated scanning processes without sacrificing precision. The compact and lightweight design also ensures seamless integration into existing microscopy systems.


    The recommended controller for the MIPOS 800 is the NV 200/D NET which includes PiSoWorks control software. The controller delivers powerful high-resolution signals up to 400 mA peak current. It has 16-bit resolution and a noise level of 0.3 mV. Control options include ethernet, USB-C, SPI and analog. PiSoWorks software includes Iterative Learning Control (ILC) which learns and compensates for unwanted motion and delivers open-loop speeds with closed-loop precision.

    Of these two new PSH stages, the PSH 20/2 is optimized for rapid tilt applications with lower capacitance and reduced energy consumption. The PSH 35/2 offers a longer stroke of motion and operation within a broader temperature range, making it ideal for achieving high precision in challenging environments.


    Both stages provide tilt to the top plate of the platform on two perpendicular axes. The design construction is temperature-compensated so that changes in ambient temperature do not affect tilting precision. The resolution of these stages is 0.5 μrad in open-loop and 1.0 μrad in closed-loop.
